What is gold vermeil jewellery?
Our jewellery is created using certified sterling silver as a base metal, with an 18k yellow gold vermeil plating. Sterling silver 925 is a combination of 92.5% silver with the remaining alloys frequently made of copper and/or zinc to provide strength to the product as pure silver is too soft to use in the making of durable jewellery. Vermeil plating refers to a technique where gold is applied to sterling silver to create pieces that seem to be solid gold, but do not have a significant price.
In order for jewellery to be considered vermeil, standards dictate that the gold portion must be of a high quality and certain thickness. Our vermeil plating is 2.5 microns thick which means it is 5 times thicker than gold-plating.
All the precious metals used in our jewellery come from 100% recycled sources certified by The Responsible Jewellery Council.
What is enamel?
Enamel is an ornamental coating made by fusing coloured powdered glass to the base metal at high temperatures.
The opaque enamel used in our jewellery is hand-painted by skilled artisans in our Jaipur atelier so that each piece is unique and one of a kind.
What can damage my jewellery and how to take care of it?
All our jewellery is crafted using certified sterling silver ( 92.5% pure silver ) as a base - alloyed with other metals in order to ensure the durability of each piece. Unlike pure silver, these other metals can react with their environment and change their form creating tarnish which occurs particularly when exposed to chemicals, moisture in the air, humidity, high temperature or water.
To slow down tarnishing and help protect the durability of your jewellery, we recommend removing your jewellery while bathing, swimming or when using cleaning products, bleach and other chemicals. Avoid spraying perfumes directly onto the jewellery and keep your jewellery away from extreme temperatures, humidity or sunlight. Do not leave the jewellery in the box without wear for longer periods of time as it can lead to oxidation. Occasional cleaning is recommended to maintain shine and keep oxidation at bay if your jewellery is stored for long-periods of time.
We suggest polishing your jewellery regularly with a microfiber cloth to keep them looking their best. Avoid using ‘dip’ polish or abrasive jewellery cleaners as these contain harsh chemicals and can destroy your jewellery over time. We do not recommend the use of any jewellery polishing cloths which have been treated with cleaners or polishing agents. You can buy our Polishing Cloth without chemicals here.
How to store your jewellery?
We highly recommend that you store your jewellery in the original packaging provided kept in a dark, cool and dry place. If you live in a humid climate, place a small packet of desiccant crystals in the packaging in order to reduce tarnishing.
